This beautiful and ancient
women's dance originated in the Middle and Near East where it is known
as Raks Sharki (Dance of the East). Today it is found in every corner of
the world and is fast becoming one of the most popular forms of dance.
Belly dance is an exciting and unique way to exercise. Being a low
impact form of exercise, it's a great way to get your body moving,
improving muscle tone and blood circulation. It builds flexibility and
increases your heart rate to aid in burning fat. Belly dance will not
put excessive stress on your joints. It keeps your cardiovascular system
healthy and helps to ward off osteoporosis.
However the best thing about Belly dance is the way it
makes women feel about themselves. Belly dancing is a women's dance -
for all women no matter your age or shape. It's all about having a
healthy body image. You are never too young or old. We have students
ranging from 5 to 80 years old, from all different backgrounds and
nationalities.
